Fighting to Save our Club
Local companies supporting over a 100 years (110 years next year) of bowling.
Despite losing funding support and the old bowls pavilion, bowling at Belle Vue Park is still going strong with membership growing strong even with these losses.
We can be thankful that since our open day we have recruited another 8 new full members, all of whom have played in cup and league matches and are thoroughly enjoying themselves. They are learning more at every match they play. They also say how much they are enjoying it. We have also increased our social membership.
The club has also been included in the Stanwell Comprehensive School well-being program. We have held two coaching sessions with years 9 and 10 and it is hoped that this will continue for the rest of the term. In July over 50 primary school children from Albert Road Primary School will be attending for a one day taster session. It is hoped that pupils from both schools will be encouraged to continue and even bring parents/siblings and grandparents to come along and have a try.
We must pay tribute to local businesses who have been supporting us this season. These are:
Curo Advisers, Tesco’s, Thompson Butchers, Williams Cleaners, St Fagans Pub and mainly to Wasons, all of whom have donated towards the seasons play. A huge thanks must go to Nick Osborne, of Wasons who has invaluable information and expertise who has now agreed to be patron of the club.
We have practice session every Monday 2-7pm. You are very welcome to come along and have a go, meet very friendly and welcoming members who will be very happy to introduce you to the sport.
We are also part of the Vale of Glamorgan Golden Pass scheme for over 60’s who are inactive and wish to try various activities in order to have some exercise and socialise. For information on how to join this you can visit: www.valeofglamorgan.gov.uk/goldepass – call: 07902401007 – email: goldenpass@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk.
